Last year Silver Creek Arts expanded. "We have too many pieces to fit into my studio" said host Diana Hillman in 2011, "and one of our new guest artists, Gail Prussky, does quite large paintings which will look wonderful in the new display area in the barn."
The studio and barn are situated at Silver Creek Farm, an idyllic, historic setting which contrasts in an exciting way with the contemporary aesthetic of many of the works for sale at the Open Studio. This combination of respect for tradition and a 21st Century point of view resonates in all the artwork in the show.
Guest artist Rosemary Molesworth draws on imagery from archaic sources to produce decorative, functional pottery with a modern, graphic edge.
The subjects of Gail Prussky's paintings are often animals and children, but her palette and perspective are anything but sentimental.
Susan Powell's pure watercolour landscape paintings lead us into the woods in a very different way. And this year Sue is working on a new series of nudes.
Hugh Russel's bronze sculptures explore movement and moments in time, each piece telling its own story. He will also show a few whimsical carved wooden pieces.
The show will also feature Ian Sinclair's hand-crafted furniture. Made of found wood and inspired by the rustic 19th Century Adirondack style, the finished pieces have a non-traditional, sculptural look.
Lastly, Diana Hillman's evocative oil paintings depict glimpses of the landscape as most of us see it; through the ready-made picture frame of the car window.
When you visit the Open Studio be sure to take a look at the century-old gingko tree in front of the house.
